BIOGRAPHY

Sun Horse is a musical duo that perform historically accurate Latvian folklore song with a mix of traditional and electronic instruments. The sun is a central theme in Latvian folklore and ritual dating back to Pagan times. The name Sun Horse is derived from an ancient Livonian symbol depicting a horse which escorts the Sun on her way through the universe.

As new entries in the folktronic genre, we focus on the 'lore' aspect more than the 'folk'.

Elīna Ellere has dedicated many years to learning traditional singing and Latvian folklore. She adopts authentic singing approaches based on historic transcriptions and recordings, and plays traditional flute instruments.

Jachin Pousson is a drummer and composer based permanently in Riga. He uses analogue synths and software to play beats and ambient layers to compliment the vocal and lyric,  with the addition of several percussion instruments.

Together, we arrange these elements over modern electronic music structures - seeking for where ancient folklore and futuristic sound pallets may fuse together well in new contexts.
